April 4 is the first anniversary of the re-opening of the Tallinn TV Tower to visitors. The TV Tower has become one of the most prominent tourist attractions of the Estonian capital, with about 242,500 people visiting the tower in the first 12 months. The TV Tower’s tourism turnover has been 1.1 million euros.
“The re-opening of the Tallinn TV Tower as an exciting pastime destination has been totally justified,” said Riina Roosipuu, Director of the Tallinn TV Tower. “When we analysed and planned the tourism aspect of our activities, we estimated the annual visitor figure to be at least 110,000 people. This initial figure has more than doubled now! This result is especially noteworthy considering the fact that only a maximum of 100 visitors can be simultaneously accommodated in the top section of the tower. The TV Tower has been a more popular attraction for local visitors, probably partly due to nostalgia. The average ratio of foreign tourists visiting the TV Tower has remained at 30%. 2013 promises to be another good year for us because even in March we had almost as many visitors as during the opening month last year when the public interest in the tower had been enormous.” |
