“Unworldly” is a speciality project where fashion design students at the Estonian Academy of Arts try out experimental forms under the creative supervision of Liisi Eesmaa. The material for the purposes of the experiment was obstinate pipes, that the young designers spent weeks trying to tame, putting themselves to the test mentally and physically.

The metamorphosis of the robust material is a journey the exhibition reveals to viewers. Quiet conversations with the inner self, sensibility for the world and material were the inspiration for shaping the students’ works. Unexpected forms and the ostensible confusion that reigned in the beginning resolved into surprising harmony thanks to the skilful way in which the pipes were handled and the cosmic symmetry. The creative treatment of the powerful features reflects their more delicate and feminine side. Thus we encounter fragments from underwater worlds, the future, fears, hopes, the cosmos, utopia – everything unworldly within the power of the human imagination.

The works presented in this exhibition represent a timeless art that is independent of fashion.
